By *that*, I mean the plan to adopt the cat which #2 daughter begged for. I wanted an older cat. Calmer. Less need for attention and/or correction. Less likely to jump on the counters the second my back is turned. With short hair. Already "fixed". Maybe even previously declawed, if I'm lucky! Won't cry all night the first week 'cause he misses his momma. Uh huh. A noble plan to adopt an adult cat likely to be put down without our intervention. Yup. Great plan. Meet two-month old Rudy. rudy.JPG No, he's not really dead. Just dead to the world after three hours straight of tearing around the house, underfoot, exploring his new home. I can't believe I was talked into a $125.00 Pound cat. And I'm a dog person. He better learn to bark at strangers, if he knows what's good for him.

Yes, Mother's Day was yesterday... but go watch this video. I sat here and laughed at my email watching it.
Remind you of anyone?

Bleary-eyed and shuffling about in my jammies, I opened my 'fridge this morning in a desperate hunt for half 'n half for my coffee, the elixir of life, the bringer of all good things before 8 am. To find my Mothers' Day gift:

Oooooh yeah.

No, I did not drink one for breakfast. I'm not quite *that* far back into single mode yet. They also brought other gifts: Vanilla-Lime scented candles. Brazilian nut body butter. Chocolate. And a BALLOON!!! I love my children. They know exactly what makes Ma's heart go pitter-patter, lol. Beer, body butter and balloons!

Eject Eject Eject: A MOVING COMPANY
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME. This is about us, our country and our civilization, and in what practical and achievable ways we can protect, defend and improve her and her people. I'll close this small update with a little tease: We need all the help we can get. To this end, I have called upon Miss Rachel Lucas -- a voice of clarity and humor long and deeply missed around here -- to be the first of many guest writers here, and she agreed.
Oh, this is great, this is so abso-LUTE-ly fantastic! I have missed Rachel's writing since she closed up shop at her blog a couple years back. To see her around again is just the wooHOO of the day. And there have been a couple of wooHOO's today. It's all over but for the paper signings and the exchange of paying out beaucoup dollars, which will take place in June. Life goes on. It's a good one, kiddies.

#1 child mentioned how she'd like to go on a shopping trip to a large nearby metropolis in search of good cheap furniture. Since I am (sorta) back in the need-some-furniture mode myself, I visited the website she mentioned and ordered a catalog. swedish-chef.jpgWhen it arrived a couple days ago, I threw it aside until I had a chance to sit with a cuppa joe and give it a proper thumb-thru. I think I have fallen in love with Swedish minimalist style, even though it will never replace my first love: Mission/ Craftsman/Stickley/Eastlake/Arts & Crafts/Morris. Stuff like this. Or this. Still, in my first 10-minute perusal of the catalog, I have completely furnished three rooms of my house, even though the names like Lycksele, Bankeryd, and Akurum leave me feeling like I should have state-funded free healthcare. I'm also starting to sound like this guy. "Børk! Børk! Børk!" Think we could convince Ikea to open a store a little closer than a 4 hours' drive away??? I'm afraid it could become a second home.

.... in our matching Tshirts, all USW-logo'd up for the first day of local contract negotiations. Looks like our mommy dressed us this morning, doesn't it?

With apologies to Dave Edmunds, work can be fun when you have a great crew like mine:
"Me and my buddies just like to go We're having fun. Everybody knows. We don't fuss and we never cry. We're just grooving, taking in the sights. Me and the boys. Just me and the boys. Me and the boys."
BTW, this was the *only* break we took allllllllll day. I'm a slavedriver, so they tell me. ;-)

Brooke sent these pictures of a memorial service she went to for some of our soldiers who were recently killed in a helicopter crash. Sort of puts things into perspective for me each day when I go to work to do my job. I know everything I do at work each day is to support these guys and girls who put their lives in danger every day. I'm thankful for men and women like these who gave everything. Pray for their Husbands, Wives, Children, brothers, sisters & parents.
Amen. { gallery [memorial] }

You know when your insurance company completely messes up your claim and denies your payment and infuriates you and you think you'll SCREAM if you can't get through all those phone menus with the "if you would like to talk to a claim representative, please press **4576" and you screw up the numbers the first time and have to start all over from the beginning and you're getting madder and madder by the minute and you think that if you could get ahold of the yahoo who invented telephone menus you would probably kill him and then you have to listen to 18 minutes of muzak on a long-distance call and finally thank you god FINALLY a comforting voice answers the phone?
This is the guy you'll be talking to. Be nice, he's my favorite son-out-law.
