Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne! And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp, And surely I'll be mine, And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet, For auld lang syne! We twa hae run about the braes, And pou'd the gowans fine, But we've wander'd monie a weary fit, Sin auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl'd in the burn Frae morning sun till dine, But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin auld lang syne. And there's a hand my trusty fiere, And gie's a hand o thine, And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught, For auld lang syne

The badge of victimhood must be "earned" (ha ha, just kidding!) by one of two methods: (1) Membership in a special "victim" class; or (2) having something bad actually happen to you. Method 1 is definitely is superior in every way since it eliminates the need for something bad to actually happen to you (as long as it once happened to someone like you--you are set); thus this method is preferable and automatically puts all sorts of celebrities and famous people on your side. They will not be concerned if you are a good person or a bad person; just as long as you meet the basic victimhood criteria
I have GOT to spend a little more time at this blog--hilarious stuff. Especially the "Bush Derangement Syndrome" discussion!

    Teenage Adventure
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An American teenager ran away to Baghdad over Christmas and survived probably the most dangerous destination in the world before being packed off home by the U.S. military, U.S. officials said on Friday. Farris (Bueller?) Hassan, the 16-year-old son of Iraqi immigrants to Florida, showed up at the Baghdad bureau of an American news agency on Tuesday and recounted a tale of foolhardy daring by a would-be journalist on a far-fetched school project, the Associated Press said in a report on its unlikely visitor. Unable to speak Arabic, the dangers of his predicament began to dawn on him when he went out of his hotel looking for food and had to pull out his phrase book.
And we worry about kids' drinking parties up here, or our little Ferris Bueller's days off? Can you imagine that phone call to his parents? "Hi son, where have you been?" ...long pause.... "You're WHERE????" (Not to mention, I want to read THAT report on "What I did for Christmas vacation"!!!)

Men want facts, women seek relations on Web
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Internet users share many common interests, but men are heavier consumers of news, stocks, sports and pornography while more women look for health and religious guidance, a broad survey of U.S. Web usage has found.
Um...religious guidance? from the Wacky World Web???

Survey says baby boomers lag seniors in direct deposit usage - Dec. 27, 2005
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Unlike today's seniors, the next generation of retirees is old-fashioned about direct deposit of paychecks and other payouts -- according to a survey released Tuesday, the "kids" don't trust it.According to the survey, there were three main reasons given by the people who don't use direct deposit: 21 percent said they like to go to a financial institution to deposit their check; 19 percent said they don't trust direct deposit; and 18 percent said they like receiving a paper check.
I'm in the last 18%--I like to hold that paycheck in my hot little hand for a few minutes, caress it, dream of all the things I could do with it.... hit the mall? run away to Jamaica?... before I give it away to house payments, utility bills, etc. etc. *comes back to earth still thinking about a Jamaican beach*

Surfing around and came across this site, which as far as my mathmatically-challenged brain can figure out, is a site which attempts to discover music in math algorithms. Kinda fun to listen to the sometimes very odd tunes. Especially for somebody who, face it, has trouble balancing the checkbook without a computer. Confession time. When I saw the name "WolframTones", first thing I thought was not of mathmatics and music, but to wonder how a webpage would get music out of a long-dead Irish Republican. Think I've been reading too many history books lately? WolframTones
WolframTones works by taking simple programs from Wolfram's computational universe, and using music theory and Mathematica algorithms to render them as music. Each program in effect defines a virtual world, with its own special story--and WolframTones captures it as a musical composition. It's all original music--fresh from "mining" Wolfram's computational universe. Sometimes it's reminiscent of familiar musical styles; sometimes it's like nothing ever heard before. But from just the tiniest corner of the computational universe WolframTones can make everyone on Earth their own unique cellphone ringtone. It's a taste of what it's like to explore the computational universe--and a hint what's to come...

Bears Win North, Completing Packers' Fall - New York Times
As the crowd filed in before the game, many fans wearing orange hunting overalls on the 28-degree night, it could muster only a few boos for the Bears, the Packers' longtime rivals. For years, the rivalry had taken on a lopsided feel, unlike the always-close games between the Packers and the Vikings. Favre's career record against the Bears stands at 21-7. But on Sunday, Favre wasn't talking to reporters after the game and the Packers had been reduced to using a fill-in punter, Ryan Flinn, who was working as a bartender last week. And Bears fans in attendance could cheer with the knowledge that their team had swept the season series with Green Bay for the first time since 1991, the year before Favre joined the Packers.

This post brought to you by Wordpress version TWO, the newly-upgraded version. I am a blog GODDESS . Update: I like the new look of the dashboard and I LOVE the new preview on the write post page, and so far my useful plugins all seem to be working (whew). I had played around with the beta awhile back, but I crashed it so often that I lost interest. I'll probably figure out a way to break this one, too! ;-) UPDATE: Dammit, looks like I managed to break it, and I didn't even DO anything!!! Why are my sidebars down at the BOTTOM of the page?!?!?!?! :-(( Guess this post will remain at the top until I figure out what broke. ANOTHER UPDATE: Thanks a ton to "skulled" on the WP forums. These volunteers have their hands full with people like me, who know just enough about code to be truly dangerous.
