SHE SAID YES, HE SAID NO, AND HE WON - Yahoo! News
Chief Justice Roberts, in his first written dissent since he joined the court last year, had by far the better of the argument. He found Souter's opinion "puzzling." It would work against an innocent wife seeking to disassociate herself from her husband's criminal activity. Police would simply depart if they were frustrated by the husband's refusal to let them in. Roberts asked: What happens to the wife "once the door clicks shut"? The chief justice foresaw many such cases. His colleagues in the majority had opted to protect the husbandly rights of Scott Randolph. What of her wifely rights? "Remember that it is her home, too." "Mrs. Randolph did not invite the police to join her for dessert and coffee." She felt the need of the protective presence of the police. "The majority's rule apparently forbids police from entering to assist with a domestic dispute if the abuser whose behavior prompted the request for police assistance objects."
I gotta wonder just a little bit about what Souter was thinking in this ruling. When I read the first paragraphs of this article, the first thing I wondered how it would apply to domestic abuse cases, too. I'm liking this chief justice more and more, I think.

NOTE FOR EUROPEANS
This colonialism on our continent (what you call "North America")must end,as was done in Algeria, in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia),and as needs to be done in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. We as human beings in the Mexica Movement will not allow ourselves, nor will we allow our people, to live as slaves in this European-made hell that Europeans have made out of our continent; nor will we allow our people to be divided by European colonialism, a colonialism of racism, poverty and oppression, and death, that controls our lives in Canada, "the U.S.", Mexico, "Central America", and the rest of this "Western Hemisphere. Europeans have a homeland: EUROPE. We are only asking unwelcomed guests to leave our home. Europeans have a home to go to, it's not as if Europeans are being asked to go into the Atlantic Ocean. The non-European world does not owe Europeans a living from our lands, our continents, or our labor. The world is not obligated to serve European interests in the way that you are not obligated to keep a cancer in your body or in the way that you do not allow parasites to feed off of your body. A cancer must be removed and parasites must also be removed, for the sake of your life as a healthy human being. We Nican Tlaca of all of Cemanahuac ("Western Hemisphere") have no obligation to be foreigners on our own land, on our own continent ---and poor because we have been robbed of the natural resource wealth of our continent---just because Europeans have "declared" borders on our continent ---telling us where we can go and where we cannot go.

CNN.com - World prepares for total solar eclipse - Mar 28, 2006
ACCRA, Ghana (AP) -- Tourists and scientists were gathering at spots around the world for a solar show -- the first total eclipse in years, which will sweep northeast from Brazil to Mongolia, blotting out the sun across swathes of the world's poorest lands. The moon is expected to first begin blocking out the sun in the morning in Brazil before the path of greatest blockage migrates to Africa, then on to Turkey and up into Mongolia, where it will fade out with the sunset. Superstition will follow around the world, as it has for generations. One Indian paper advised pregnant women not to go outside during the eclipse to avoid having a blind baby or one with a cleft lip. Food cooked before the eclipse should be thrown out afterward because it will be impure and those who are holding a knife or ax during the eclipse will cut themselves, the Hindustan Times added.
Obviously, for some of us, eclipses are very unlucky events. For me, however, the eclipse is supposed to be a wonderful thing, according to this week's horror-scope:
This week March 27 through April 2 Libra The Solar Eclipse in your opposite sign of Aries on Wednesday may bring about a change in the status of your relationships. This is a time of new beginnings and of hope. If one relationship has recently come to an end, you now get a chance to start out fresh. Perhaps you are enjoying the feeling of being on your own again and a chance to date others without getting really serious. Or maybe you already have someone in mind and the Eclipse will bring your relationship much closer than you thought possible at this stage.
heh.

I think we can safely say that there is an execution in his future. I am sick to my stomach reading this article. CNN.com - Moussaoui: White House was my 9/11 target - Mar 27, 2006
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (CNN) -- Al Qaeda conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui told a stunned courtroom Monday that he and would-be shoe bomber Richard Reid were supposed to hijack a fifth plane on September 11, 2001, and crash it into the White House. In a day of bombshell revelations, Moussaoui also admitted that he knew about al Qaeda's plot to hijack planes and fly them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. "I had knowledge that the two towers would be hit, but I did not have the details," Moussaoui told jurors after taking the witness stand in his own defense. Moussaoui said that while he didn't know the "precise date to the day" of the planned terrorist attacks, he knew they would come after his arrest in August 2001 in Minnesota. He said he made sure he had a radio in his jail cell. When the first news reports on September 11 described a fire at the trade center, Moussaoui said, "I immediately understood."

Study: Left-Handed Snails Have Advantage - Yahoo! News
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Left-handed snails are better than righties at defending against predators, according to a new study that suggests lefties have the same competitive advantage in nature that they enjoy on the baseball diamond or in the boxing ring. "It's just a frequency issue," said Yale geologist Gregory P. Dietl, one of the study's authors. "As long as you're rare, you're going to have an advantage."
Now, what did I tell you? Wonder which way the snails' hair whorls?
