yucky stuff

Published on April 25 2006

Okay, anybody have a clue about how to get rid of referrer spam? It's showing up in my SiteMeter, and it's some pretty disgusting stuff. There's gotta be a plugin to get rid of this crap. UPDATE: Well, we'll try this little piece of code from this place. I'd rather never have a hit than look at some of the links I've seen today! :-&

The 'puter didn't eat your comment, I think my moderation queue ate it.

I am sitting here, picturing watch-wearing........nah, never mind.

I shut off public access to sitemeter, at least I won't be sharing the URLs of these sites with my unsuspecting readership! ;-)

Argh, the computer ate my comment. Highlights:

I used this referral system, and I got thirty-forty watch-wearing-transvestite-geezer referrals a day, so I input cartier, shemale, and viagra into the filter. Any referral with those words in it wouldn't display on my referral page. :)

I had a different referral system (I used this site) and I had to put certain keywords in the filter that I saw popping up a lot. My three top keywords were cartier, shemales, and viagra. The php file for that referral system lets you add a line and at a certain point, add a word--if the word shows up anywhere in the referral, the referral log won't display it. It worked for me because I had thirty transvestite-watch-wearing geezer spams a day and nothing else, really.

Details, details!!! I couldn't care less if the porno sites want to peek here--I just don't want them leaving their calling cards here. Gag.

Howd'ja block them?

I mostly had to filter out by keyword. It wasn't nasty stuff for me, it was watch spam (rolex! cartier!) I always got hit with.
