My family jewels...er, rock...

I spent some time over the last couple of days with my Dad, going through large--extremely large--tubs of photographs and papers, and old valentines, and.....etc. I have this project in mind of scanning all of these old faded photos, and trying to make a little sense out of them. Thankfully, most of them are marked on the back as to WHO the subjects of the photos are. I'd be in a lot of trouble if they weren't already captioned, and in some cases, dated. Click for bigger pictures: This picture is of the Pettis family, taken about 1880 or so. Left to right is Sarah Crandall Pettis, grandson Willie, and Albert Munson Pettis. The Pettis' were my 3x great-grandparents on my father's side. Note the little rock on the bottom shelf of the plant stand in the photo. Looking at the photo, I thought it was a concrete chicken, and I asked why they had a chicken in their photo. My dad laughed, and retrieved a treasure from a shelf in the next room. Look familiar?
