Yes, I have been remiss (what does that phrase *mean*, anyway?) in blog posts. I can only cry "busybusybusy" and "too much gallivanting around the Northwoods". And that doesn't even include the upcoming motorcycle trip later this week, wherein eight or ten intrepid papermakers and their various spouses and hangers-on make like a biker gang and head off to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for three days of biker gang activities. What exactly papermakin' biker gangs *do* in yooper country is still to be discovered. I can't wait to find out, and of course I will photograph the daylights out of them and then blog them, lol. I wonder if the "fifty mile rule" will be invoked? I wonder if they'll try to jam my camera down my throat? Pray for good weather, folks. Mad wants to *ride*. These pics, however, are from the last couple of weeks; various shots around our great inland ocean. The only thing missing is the salt smell. I'd put one of me in there, but I got so sunburnt while out on the water this weekend that I'm afraid the fiery glow would crash all your computers! The peeling will follow. Sucks when you forget your sunscreen. { gallery [Superior] }

And yes, it rained. And fogged. And rained. You'd think we were in Seattle or something! So instead of trying out Precious' new windshield, I borrowed the 'vette-I-used-to-be-part-owner-of for my little lake cruise. It's fun to wrap your @$$ in fiberglas and sling some horsepower around, but I was still pretty grumbly about not getting to ride. Still, I managed to find time to take a short trip up the North Shore to bag a lighthouse (pics will follow tomorrow, if I get around to it) and take a walk down the trail to Gooseberry Falls. I can be *such* a tourist sometimes. Notice how far the wussie is from getting anywhere NEAR that edge?

I've linked to this page before, but it's fun to see where I'm headed bright and early tomorrow morning. Precious is going to get a workout, assuming I don't wake up to the usual pouring rain! I'll be dragging the camera along of course, but I can only hope to someday be able to take photos like these. Too bad it's not polite to steal images for your blog--I'd love to be able to post some of these. Anyway, go check out Northern Images Photography.

Hey Kidbrudder; Don't these guys announce a reunion/tour/album like, every other month or so? A good question, but not the most important question.... Gonna get tickets???? Van Halen & David Lee Roth announce tour
With its flamboyant frontman, "Diamond Dave," Van Halen was one of the most popular rock bands of the 1980s. But the group split up in 1985 and the original lineup hasn't performed together since. "I'm shocked any of us are still vertical," Roth quipped.

Looks like another long boring week of soul-searching for me. I think I need a vacation.
This week August 13 through August 19 Libra There's nothing wrong with wanting more out of life than you have, but you achieved your heart's desire and one of your fondest goals and you're still dissatisfied. Now you need to dig a little more deeply for the reason. Wednesday, the Sun conjuncts Mercury in your sector of hopes and wishes and you do some soul searching regarding your inner need to succeed and what you hope to find once you get what you want. Sunday you reflect on the importance of enjoying the things in life you don't have to pay for, like friends or a beautiful sunset.

I happened to note that I never *did* put up a "post-fire floor pic" of how nice the floors turned out--after another day or two of cleaning up the scratches and marks from fire hoses and boots. Oh well. The purple rugs are down now, the furniture is in, and the only things left are the installation of the gas fireplace and something to fill that enormous empty spot on the wall in the fourth picture. I have one idea for it, but I will certainly accept any other suggestions!! { gallery [LR] }

I heard this tune awhile back on XM, but it came across the local "pretty music for old farts" radio station last night while I was at work. It's a new-ish song by REOSpeedwagon. Now it's stuck. I always was a sucker for a good old Midwestern-roots rock band, even if Kevin Cronin is doing the go-blonde-instead-of-going-gray thing. Wonder where he might have gotten *that* idea? :-? Okay, I know, mushy ballads and all, but what the hey? Qwitcherbitchen' back there, or I'll post "Keep on Lovin' You". You all know that one --the song to which 90% of babies in the US were conceived in the early 80's?
No, Shawny, I'm *not* going to say if YOU were. ;-)

Robber forgets bag, leaves without money - Yahoo News
NEW HUDSON, Mich. - A bank teller apparently flustered a would-be bank robber — and foiled a robbery — after asking where the suspect's bag was to carry off the money, authorities said.
