Saddam video

The video of the hanging is all over the internet, and was all over CNN this morning. All of the TV stations were of course careful to end the video before the actual hanging, thankfully. It's not exactly an image I want to have anyway. But it did make me wonder....how is it that Hussein's hanging is deemed too graphic for our delicate tastes, yet CNN and some of the other news channels had absolutely no problem airing the video a few weeks back of an Iraqi sniper killing an American soldier? Just sayin'.

Pinch, you already *know* what Ray is going to say--as well as Frankie, of course, lol. They will rant on ad nauseum about the "right wing media". Rupert Murdoch & Fox news, yadda, yadda.

Mad, I think its pretty obvious why the media airs the killing of one of our soldiers and not Saddams' death. They do not report the news. They pick and choose what to report as a form of propoganda. There's not much difference between propoganda and reporting only that which you feel supports your cause. There's a fine line between telling a lie and not telling the whole truth. It's obvious that the media does not take a neutral position on the war. They are controlled by the liberal left wingers who will do, say and show anything that supports their views. Maybe the media feels we need to actually see the images of a soldier being killed to understand that they are being killed. But as for me, I don't need the image to understand that it is happening. I also don't think the families who have lost their family members want the death of their loved ones plastered all over television for the world to see. In the case of Saddam, I think some of his own family members would have been satisfied to see the images.

Wonder what our friend Ray would have to say about the dichotomy between these two approaches toward what is "graphic" - one is considered "news" by those who show it to us (in my opinion because it would end up hurting the cause of those who support this war and feel it a necessary aspect of "draining the swamp") and the other is considered too much for our poor soul and minds and psyches (in my opinion because it might give comfort and solace and a sense of accomplishment and progress to those who support the war and feel it a necessary thing). Mebbe I need to pop over to Vent and see.

I think I agree, KB--but my comment on it was more directed towards the media angle. I wonder why they think the execution of a man who was directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of his own people--including gassing an entire village-- was somehow too graphic to show us; but it was okay to show the "execution" of one of our own soldiers over the shoulder of an insurgent. <br /> Which image was more "deserved"?

I had to really think about how to respond to this post. I get no pleasure out of knowing he was hung but yet I believe it was just and right for it to happen. If seeing the images of his death are needed to reconcile the injury he has caused to his own country men then I say let them see it. But to air his death images for the entertainment value they bring is pretty morbid. When we start doing these types of things, society as a whole is really crawling into the gutter. My two cents.
